Alma Flor Ada began writing children's stories after her daughter told her that all the books she wrote (high school textbooks) were "ugly." Alma Flor heard the message loud and clear, her daughter, Rosalma, felt her mother gave her attention to others and not to her. In response, Alma Flor began to create poetry anthologies and retellings of stories she had liked as a child. Eventually, she also began writing original works, and now Alma Flor has published over 200 books!
